Like A Silk Worm, Make Something Beautiful

The silk worm is a muted green to greenish-yellow worm with a thick body, about an inch and a half in length. This worm has little knobby feet it uses to walk around the fresh green leaves it eats. Without anything outwardly memorable about this worm, one would pass by not knowing the beauty it creates.

As we watched Thai women work the looms that weave strands of silk thread to make masterful creations, it made me think that each individual is like a silk worm. Within each one of us is the ability to make something beautiful.

A silk worm’s cocoon, when boiled and pulled, make ragged yellow silk strands. After further refinement, dyeing, and spooling the fine silk strands are ready to be woven together to create beautiful patterns of material. From the material pillows, blankets, shawls, shirts, bedding, scarfs, and limitless other products can be made.

No matter which country we are in I have felt a love towards the people that surround us. Most of them are not memorable in any outwardly way, but a few, by their kind words and helpfulness, will never be forgotten. They all help to weave part of my life story as well as my family’s.

Like the ragged yellow silk thread that needs refinement, dyeing, and spooling, we also begin projects or a new direction in life in a frazzled state. Beginnings are just the rough sketch of the end product. After adjustments and changes are made, the product begins to take shape. The brightly colored spools of thread at the factory are another beginning of the silk. From its refinement and change it can now produce the most beautiful material.

Making the necessary changes to our project whether it be in family life, business, or personal life will allow us more opportunity to create something beautiful. Meaningful outings with your family, designing a new business product, or flaying a bad habit all require making changes to our thoughts and behaviors. Those changes lead to the most beautiful masterpieces in life.

In these ways are we not all like a silk worm?

Creating a masterpiece of your life begins believing that you can and then you set to work to accomplish it. The silk worm leaves behind a masterpiece that can be used, seen, worn, and loved.

What life will you create and what legacy will you leave behind?
